Dabbling
You'll be happy to know that I've been playing with my new toy--the Bosworth spindle I bought the other day.
Now, of course, I don't spin on a spindle all that often. Usually I prefer to use one of my wheels, but it's new. Naturally, that means it deserves to be played with.
The verdict, on this short acquaintance, is that it spins very nicely indeed. Compared to my other spindles?
I'm not sure if it outranks the Kundert, which has been my favorite since I bought it back in 2004, but it's close. Very close. I like that Jenkins Turkish spindle quite a bit, too except for the fact that it doesn't have a hook, which drives me bonkers for winding on. (It seems like such a small thing and yet having to do that thumb-loop-half-hitch thing every 30 seconds or so? That really irks me.) And then, it's almost sacrilege, of course, but I still don't like my Golding very much. The littler one is okay, I guess, but the bigger one? I really don't think it spins all that well. But this Bosworth is really very nice.
Did you see that Mom and I got our pictures on Norma and Sandy's blogs? Sandy, in particular, was sneaky--I didn't even see her taking that picture! How often does Chappy's Grandma make it onto blogs other than mine, huh? Chappy says that he is just so proud of his people!
Hey, have you seen these cute little wool acorns? I'm suddenly feeling the urge to go rummage in the yard....
Okay, I think I'm going to go spin some more . . . or maybe, I'll be responsible and try to do some work for Dad instead.... Although, bed is sounding pretty tempting at this point, too!

I picked up a Bosworth last year at Rhinebeck, it's my lightest and favorite. I do have the sneaky suspicion though that I don't have quite the collection as yourself :)
The other day while dropping off my mother-in-law's groceries I noticed acorns all over the drive way. Grabbed an empty bag and hopefully me and little man find so time soon to make some felt balls. I've been dreaming of them since the first time I seen them on Beth's blog.
So sorry I missed seeing you! I was really hoping to run into you - guess there is always next year. :)

Very nice spindle. My spindle is sadly unused as I stink at it. Much prefer the Kiwi. As for acorns, if you need any, feel free to come over and take some. But wear a helmet, they hurt when they fall out of the trees.

Well, just to add fuel to the fire, Steve of Spindlewood makes beautifully balanced, lovely wood, spin forever spindle whorls. And my Forrester spins like a dream. I had no intention of buying either, but they came to my attention, I tried them, and had to do it.

I'm also a heretic...don't really like either of the Golding spindles I just HAD to have! But, then, after a lovely workshop with Judith MacKenzie, I'm really more of a low-whorl spindler, myself. If you want a great spindle, try one from Wooly Wonka Fibers...Anne's husband makes amazing spindles. Top whorl.

Thanks for the acorn links - must make some!
I just got a takli and have been pulling out my hair (no, not to spin it!). So far, I'm liking my Bossie much better.

I have a couple of the Bosworth spindles and like them very much. I only really seem to use a spindle when it is brand new and then it sits. I'm quite pleased with that tiny little Golding that I bought this year.

Chappy looks quite at home in that picture, very wise expression too.
Of cousre you must play, at least a little, on the new toy!

I'm quite curious about the whole spindle spinning thing. I signed up for a spindle class out of curiosity. The class is in November. What is the major difference between using the spindle and the wheel?
