Nearly Lotus
I'm just past the halfway point of the (annoying) bobble cast-off of my Lotus Blossom Shawl.
I know, this picture's indistinct--a gold-brown shawl laid out on a gold-brown rug doesn't exactly make for great photography. I'll do better when I block it, I promise.
The bobble cast-off? Did I mention how very annoying that is? I don't like bobbles. I don't like the way they look. I don't like, really don't like, knitting them. And the worst part of these? The cast-off is done from back, so they're purled on the "working" side, and knitted on the reverse. I can knit backwards, right to left, if I have to--and this is what I usually do for bobbles (on the one other occasion I've ever knitted them). But in this case, I'd need to purl from right to left, and I couldn't coordinate that. So . . . K5, turn, P5, turn, K5 turn, and so on and so on. Ugh.
Why am I putting myself through the bobble torture when I don't like them and hate knitting them? Because I have to admit that I like the look on the edge of this, particular shawl. And I AM past the halfway point, so it's certainly worth my while to finish. I suppose it's worth it....
I know my assistant is impressed.
I definitely plan to get this done tomorrow, which means I'll have it blocked by the end of the weekend. Woohoo!
Now let me ask you a question. Does anyone out there use Wordpress as a blogging program? Opinions? As compared to Movable Type?

Elvis crosses his paws like that too but Pearl never does.
The colors of the shawl are gorgeous - I'm hoping you have beautiful days for some beatiful FO shots. :)

Love the crossed paws.
As a user (but not using them to blog), I like Moveable Type better than WordPress...

i use movable type for my work's site and am setting up wordpress for my soon-to-be professional blog.. and wordpress just rocks.
movable type is the grandaddy of blog applications, but wordpress is, in my opinion, wayyy better. the admin interface is more intuitive, the plugins available are easier to install and more useful, and the themes to choose from are great.
plus with movable type, you have to re-build the site everytime you change a setting or tweak the templates - very annoying. recently, i've heard there's a way to change this: http://www.sixapart.com/pronet/articles/how_to_speed_up.html
i use textpattern for mellowtrouble and i love it the best, though
;)

I'm with you, I dislike bobbles too. You're almost there!

Bobbles are a pain in the ass, that's for sure. But I agree with you that they look perfect on the edging of this shawl. It will all be worth it in the end.

I use WordPress and love it and now tend to do a happy dance each time they have a new release. I haven't used Moveable Type but have used TypePad so I can't be real specific in my comparison between the two. But, I have to say I adore the fact that you can be set to moderated, but have it let through comments from e-mail addresses that have been approved before. It means my regular comments get posted right away and don't have to await my approval and my comments section is SPAM-free to the public. I also have a little specialized script that I run that turns off commenting for anything older than a week (it's adjustable). That's an add-on, but quite handy when I remember to run it. If you have any specific questions I'd be happy to try answer them for you.
